SELEUCIS and PIERIA, Antioch(?). Nero, with Divus Claudius. AD 54-68. Fourrée Tetradrachm (24mm, 12.67 g, 12h). Contemporary imitation(?). Struck circa AD 63-68. Laureate head of Nero right; star in left field / Laureate head of Divus Claudius right. Prieur 48; McAlee 270; RPC I 4123 (uncertain mint). VF, areas of find patina, spots of verdigris and broken plating.
From the Michel Prieur Collection.
Often attributed to Caesarea in Cappadocia (Sydenham 64-5), this type (and its variants) are now attributed to Seleucis and Pieria based on find spots, but the exact mint remains unclear.
