Arab-Byzantine, Egypt (?). Anonymous issue. ca. 640-660. AE 12 nummi (12.2 mm, 1.24 g, 8 h). Two facing busts, long cross between / O - ω above, with cross between, ΠOM below. A-114D; D&B-UII; Foss-142. VF for type, attractive contrast - notably nice for an Arab-Byzantine issue. Very Rare.
Ex Leo Hamburger 1890's.
Derived from Byzantine issue of Rome (Heraclius, SBCV 889 is a possible prototype), actually mint undetermined, but found only in Egypt and believed to be an Arab issue. From a large group of Roman Provincial, Byzantine and Vandalic coins which were part of Leopold Hamburger's inventory.
