Macedon, First Meris. Amphipolis. Civic issue under Roman rule. 158-146 B.C. AR tetradrachm (29.9 mm, 16.88 g, 12 h). Amphipolis mint. Diademed and draped bust of Artemis right, bow and quiver at shoulder; all within tondo of Macedonian shield / ΜΑΚΕΔΟΝΩΝ / ΠΡΩΤΗΣ, legend divided by club of Hercules, handle to left; ΣHOP in monogram above, TKP in monogram below to left, MTE in monogram below to right; all within oak-wreath with ties at left. SNG Copenhagen 1314 var. (bottom left monogram); BMC 8 var. (bottom right monogram). VF, slightly off-center on both sides, loses only some edge decoration on shield and leaves from wreath, small weakly struck area reverse, lightly toned.
