Augustus, 27 BC-AD 14. As (Copper, 25 mm, 11.14 g, 7 h), Lugdunum, 10-7 BC. CAESAR PONT MAX Laureate head of Augustus to right. Rev. ROM ET AVG Front elevation of the Altar of Lugdunum, decorated with the corona civica between laurels and stylized figures; altar flanked by columns surmounted by statues of Victory standing vis-à-vis, each holding a palm frond in her right hand and wreath in her left. BMC 550. Cohen 240. RIC 230. Attractive olive green patina. Minor corrosion on the reverse, otherwise, very fine.


The 'Altar of Lugdunum' depicted on this coin was dedicated in 12 BC to Roma and Augustus. It was located in the famous sanctuary of the Tres Galliae in Lugdunum.
