ISLAMIC, Umayyad Caliphate. temp. Mu'awiya I ibn Abi Sufyan, AH 41-60 / AD 661-680. Fals (Bronze, 17 mm, 2.82 g, 4 h), Arab-Byzantine type, Dimashq. Two imperial figures standing facing, holding cruciform scepters in their right hands and the left figure holding globus cruciger in his left hand; above, cross. Rev. Large M surrounded by blundered Arabic legend reading 'darb dimashq ja'iz' ('current issue [of] Dimashq'); above, cross; below, officina mark in the shape of an inverted crescent.
