Taking the throne at the young age of 17, he quickly got rid of the competition who helped him gain power of the already decaying Mughal Empire. He was a big patron of the arts with an emphasis on musical, cultural and administrative developments. The sacking of Deli quickened the pace in which the Empire crumbled.
