After the death of his father Harihara II in 1404 a family dispute broke out over who would succeed the throne. Eventually Deva Raya II emerged victorious claiming the throne in 1406. He proved to be a capable ruler with military prowess who modernized the Vijayanagara army, supported irrigation works and was a patron of Kannada literature and architecture. Flashy and lustrous with the reverse struck a little off center.
