NICARAGUA. Provisional Imitative 2 Reales, 1823. Leon Mint. NGC AU-53.
4.42 gms. KM-15.1 (under Honduras). While the Standard Catalog of World Coins attributes these "imitation cob" issues to Honduras, Jara (p.31-35) traces their origin to Leon, Nicaragua. Assayer "PY" is clear as is part of the date on the cross side. Interesting to note is that the tops of the pillars seem to be similar to those found on provisional cobs of Honduras. Typical crude manufacture on a compact flan with light attractive tone.
From the Richard Stuart Collection.
Estimate: $1000.00- $1500.00
