MEXICO. Durango, Cuencame. "Muera Huerta" Peso, 1914. PCGS MS-62 Gold Shield.
KM-622; GB-87. Reeded Edge / Dot-Dash Border variety. Deeply toned with intermingled gold and graphite tone on both sides. A vastly popular one year issue due to its anti-establishment, "death to Huerta" theme.

Victoriano Huerta (1850-1916) was a Mexican military officer who eventually became the 35th President of Mexico. In 1913, while still a high-ranking officer, Huerta led a conspiracy against the 33rd President of Mexico, Francisco Madero, which resulted in his as well as his Vice President's assassination. Huerta's assumption of the Presidency shortly thereafter would lead to the Mexican Revolution. Ultimately arrested in the United States in 1915, he remained in U.S. custody until his death in El Paso in 1916. Today, Huerta is still an unpopular figure in Mexican history, earning nicknames such as El Chacal (The Jackal) and El Usurpador (The Usurper).

Estimate: $700.00- $1000.00
