Despite several years of preparation and the construction of a stadium, the First African Games in Alexandria in 1929 never took place. In fact the first African games were not held until 1965 in Brazzaville when they were rebranded the Pan-African Games (Brazzaville also hosted the 50th Anniversary Games). This year's games will be held in Casablanca, Morocco. Egypt did not host the games until 1991.
