STRAITS SETTLEMENTS. British Administration. 100 Dollars, 1901. P-4C. PMG Very Fine 25.
This design is arguably the most important, and most difficult design to obtain in the entire Straits Settlements catalog. The 1901 date is the earliest known date for the type. This TDLR design belongs to the first series of notes from the Straits Settlements. The entire design is visible, including the Tiger that is shown on the reverse with just some minor split damage at center, which is noted on the holder. Three printed signatures are found above the lower right serial number. The design is completely red with the exception of the green "HUNDRED" printed at lower center. Four languages dress the front of the note; English, Chinese, Malay, and Jawi. This note is likely missing from the most advanced collections of World Paper Money, as it is currently the only certified example on the PMG population report. A true rarity, and one of the few "Museum" quality pieces in the Straits Settlements catalog.
Estimate: $40000.00- $60000.00
