CHINA. Qing Dynasty. Jiangsu. 10 Cash Charm or Auspicious Money, ND (1736-95). Suzhou Mint. Qian Long. Graded "78" by Zhong Qian Ping Ji Coin Grading Company.
cf.Hartill-22.308 (for basic design); Jen-not listed; SCCC-not listed; Shanghai Museum-not listed. "Kai lu qian" (open furnace money). Board of Revenue type, small "u" in "su". "Qian Long Tong bao" (Qian Long currency); Reverse: "Boo su", inverted "V" above, upside down crescent below. This type does not seem to appear in the standard reference material and looks to be more closely related to a charm or amulet that was used as an offering from the mint to be presented to the Gods when the mint first began production. An interesting piece destine for more research from the specialist. Deep attractive patina with earthen deposits amongst the devices.
