CHINA. Yunnan Sanchuo Jieding. Provincial Three Stamp Remittance Ingots. Silver 5 Tael Bank Ingot, 5th Month. NEARLY EXTREMELY FINE.
179.82 gms. cf.BMC-Class XL Group H. "Gong Gu Ton Kan Qi" (checked by public assayer Tong). "Qing Yu Long Hao Wu Yue Wen Yin" (Qingyulong Bank, 5th month, fine silver). Several small surface scratches on the obverse while the reverse has a spot of apparent repair. Stamps deeply impressed with clear definition of the characters. Despite the noted defects a presentable dated example sure to excite even the most advanced of collectors.

This particular type of packsaddle ingots was widely used and was made during nearly the entire history of the use of packsaddle ingots in Yunnan. The reason for stating the month of manufacture was to keep track of payments being made by Yunnan remittance banks to entities in other provinces, or over a far distance which may take several months to arrive. In this way an agreed upon payment could be made at an agreed upon time despite the uncertainty of travel time.

Estimate: $700.00- $1000.00
