CHINA. Yunnan Sanchuo Jieding. Provincial Three Stamp Remittance Ingots. Silver 4.5 Tael Bank Ingot, 10th Month. NEARLY EXTREMELY FINE.
162.88 gms. BMC-Class LXVI Group H #800. "Gong Gu Ton Kan Qi" (checked by public assayer Tong). "Lei Qing Tai Hao Shi Yue Wen Yin" (Leiqingtai Bank, 10th month, fine silver). Stamps deeply applied with luster in the protected areas slightly subdued by minor earthen deposits. Attractively toned displaying a pleasant soft grey highlighted by hues of blue and rose. A lovely example sure to be a welcome addition to the next collection it enters.

This particular type of packsaddle ingots was widely used and was made during nearly the entire history of the use of packsaddle ingots in Yunnan. The reason for stating the month of manufacture was to keep track of payments being made by Yunnan remittance banks to entities in other provinces, or over a far distance which may take several months to arrive. In this way an agreed upon payment could be made at an agreed upon time despite the uncertainty of travel time.

Estimate: $700.00- $1000.00
