CHINA. Tientsin Tutung Yamen Bronze Medal, 1902. PCGS Genuine--Repaired, Unc Details Gold Shield.
L&M-994; cf.Li-pg 90. By J. Chevt and struck by TENSHODO. RARE bronze medal struck by the seven member provisional military government which controlled Tientsin ca. 1900-02. The obverse records this provisional government with a legend in French around enamel flags of Germany, United States, France, United Kingdom, Italy, Japan and Russia with the dates of its existence below; Reverse: Two line inscription within wreath of oak and laurel. While it was struck in bronze, silver and gold it is believed that the gold versions were only presented to the foreign dignitaries of the provisional government meaning this bronze example would have been presented to either a local or low ranking official or possibly someone who was present during the siege. We have handled several examples of the gold and silver version of this medal, but is the first example in bronze that we can recall seeing. Several small unobtrusive scratches on the edge hardly noticeable could be why this example was given a details designation. Despite its shortcomings a handsome well executed example with a nice look.

Estimate: $1000.00- $1500.00
