HONG KONG. 50 Cents, 1951. PCGS PROOF-66 Gold Shield.
KM-27.1; Prid-16. Though denominated as 50 Cents, the obverse die was prepared using the contemporary Southern Rhodesia Shilling punch, with the reverse dies prepared using a sketch provided by the local Hong Kong government. This example, with its deeply reflective fields and charming iridescent tone, is the finest example of the issue that we have seen (the last one we sold, a Proof-65 (Hong Kong, August 2016, lot 60056), realized $4,600) and is thus worthy of strong competition from the collector of Hong Kong coinage struck during its time under British administration.
Estimate: $3000.00- $6000.00
