Local rulers, annoyed by Portuguese depredations, invited in the Dutch, who ousted the Portuguese in the 1650's. They, in turn, were displaced by the British in 1796, who ruled the entire island until independence in 1948. This Portuguese Goa 1640 Tanga has the Dutch East India Co.
