KM-55; Gomes-17.01; cf.Sch-1265. Galle countermark ("GAL" monogram) on Portuguese Goa 2 Tangas. Galle, on the southern end of Ceyon, was a Portuguese fort seized by the Dutch in 1649. It still stands, though damaged by the 2004 Indonesian tsunami. The countermark is graded as AU Details, though a little muddled. The host coin is bold and fresh. Dark toned.
