GREAT BRITAIN. 5 Pounds, 1826. George IV. PCGS PROOF-62 DEEP CAMEO Gold Shield.
S-3797; KM-702; Fr-373; WR-213. Mintage: 150 pieces. King's bare head left with short hair by William Wyon after Sir Francis Chantrey and Jean-Baptiste Merlen. Reverse: Crowned Arms on mantle, enriched by Proof surface in the field of each quarter emphasizing the delicately frosted lions and harp as well as the escutcheon of the Kingdom of Hanover at center. Raised edge inscription DECUS ET TUTAMEN, ANNO REGNI SEPTIMO. Wilson and Rasmussen list this as a Proof Pattern, "Type generally issued in the Proof Sets," recalling that to British numismatists the line between ultra-rare Proof strikes and Patterns is far from rigid. Like the 5 Pounds of 1825, surviving 1826 examples were issued in Proof sets and remain excessively rare today. Signs of handling consistent for the grade. This coin's fields boast liquid-glass reflectivity, combining with delicately frosted devices. An always in demand type sure to see spirited bidding from the advanced collector.

Estimate: $80000.00- $100000.00
