JAPAN. Yen, Year 8 (1875). Meiji. PCGS AU-55 Gold Shield.
Y-A25.2; JNDA-01-10. Exceptional quality for this VERY RARE date, displaying a strike that is virtually full with little to no loss from past circulation, surfaces that display only the most trivial signs of past handling and an impressive expanse of tone over both sides that contains a mixture of gold, russet, red, olive and blue hues. Easily among the finest we have seen as well, with the last auction appearance of a certified example in a grade even remotely close to this piece coming in 2013 when a PCGS-graded EF-40 brought $10,575. Considering that many years have passed between now and then, and the present piece is considerably finer, we expect the specialist will jump at the opportunity to own this undeniable centerpiece coin in the Japanese Yen series.
Estimate: $15000.00- $20000.00
