NETHERLANDS EAST INDIES. Sumatra. Gilt-Copper 2 Kepings, AH 1213//1798 (1798). NGC PROOF-65.
KM-261. Gilt copper proof issued by the British during their occupation of Sumatra (1685-1824). Marked as a denomination error on the holder, as the reverse is written as a "3" (۳), rather than the correct "2". No premium arises from this as all were made this way. Still, a scarce type, the first we've had and the first offering in the archives since Baldwin sale 86 (May 2014, lot 538). See also the bronzed copper proof we are offering in this sale. Sharply struck with smooth aureate fields, brilliant and quite attractive.
Estimate: $900.00- $1200.00
