The Siculo-Punic series of tetradrachms were from the outset intended for the financing of Carthaginian military campaigns in Sicily. Commencing in the late fifth century BC, the coins often combined traditional Carthaginian symbols with types inspired by the designs of Greek Sicilian city states. The styles of these coins varied considerably from those bearing a distinctly 'Punic' appearance, to those that were very fair emulations of the work of Syracusan masters.
