PHOENICIA, Ace-Ptolemais. Macrinus. AD 217-218. Æ (24mm, 12.29 g, 12h). Laureate head right / Perseus standing facing, head left, holding head of Medusa and harpa. Sofaer 188; Rouvier 1026 var. (bust type and ethnic); SNG Copenhagen –; BMC –; AUB –. Near VF, dark green patina with reddish earthen highlights/deposits. Very rare, this variety, with laureate head right, only published in the Sofaer collection, and only one example (this coin) on CoinArchives.
