Banknotes from the Brian Dawson Collection
Treasury Series, John Bradbury, Dardanelles Campaign Overprint, £1, 1915-16 (1914), serial number Y/70 47899, with fake red Dardanelles campaign overprint in Arabic on face, heavily pressed, thus fine. There are two obvious ways to tell that the overprint is a fake. Firstly, the note is pressed but the overprint isn't and has been produced using a commercial printer (the ink dots/pixels are visible with magnification). Secondly, the prefix is not one that was used for the overprinted notes. An interesting item for collectors of fakes and forgeries.
