JULIUS CAESAR, issue of C. Clovius Praetor, (45 B.C.), AE dupondius, Rome mint, (15.14 g), obv. winged and draped bust of Victory to right, around CAESAR DICTER before, star behind, rev. Minerva advancing left, holding trophy, spear and shield decorated with gorgoneion, snake at feet, C. CLOVI PRAEF around, (S.1417, Cr.476/1, RPC 601, RSC Julius Caesar 7). Attractive light brown patina, surface pitting on obverse, very fine/nearly extremely fine and rare in this condition.

The type is rarely found in good condition and more so with the impressive gorgoneion visible on the shield.
