OTTOMAN EMPIRE, early 19th century, yataghan sword with 66cm blade in Damascus steel and with maker's mark and flat back edge, the handle is bone with flared ears and around the centre and overlaying onto the blade for a distance of 10cm is an elaborately carved, raised silver decoration, the scabbard of velvet with a gold bullion stripe down one side also has an elaborately carved silver locket (12cm) and chape (16cm), the top decorative locket section has a loop for attaching to a sword belt, total length including scabbard 82cm. Very fine.
