KNIGHT BACHELOR'S BADGE, 2nd type breast badge by Garrards & Co, London; 3rd type neck badge by Spink and Son, London, both hallmarked. Two badges attributed to Sir John Minogue. Good extremely fine.

Together with sports fob in gold (15ct; 15.6g; 31x39mm), inscribed on obverse, 'J.P.M./W & N.E.F.A.' and on reverse, '1925/W & N.E.F.A./Life Membership Badge/Presented to/J.P.Minogue Esq./for services rendered as/President for many years/R.Heald. President/M.Minogue. Sect'. W & N.E.F.A. is Waranga & North Eastern Football Association.

Sir John Minogue (1909-1989). Educated at St Kevin's College and Melbourne University. He spent two years as a solicitor in Bendigo before he was called to the Victorian Bar in 1939. He served in the Army from 1940 to 1946. On returning to civilian life he practised law, becoming a Queen's Counsel in 1957 and was a member of the Victoria Bar Council 1958 to 1962, when he was appointed judge of the Supreme Court of the Territory of Papua and New Guinea, serving as Chief Justice 1970 to 1974. He was knighted in 1976 and became Victorian Law Reform Commissioner in 1977.
