Charles Henry Rochester, grocer, born 16Sep1878 at Inglewood, Vic; served in Boer War as Private with 1st Victorian Mounted Rifles; Emb.28Oct1899; RTA 04Dec1900; Enl.07Apr1902 to serve again in Boer War as Sergeant with 1st Regt, NZ Mounted Rifles; Married 30Mar1904 to Alice Colleen McLennan in Dunedin, Otago, NZ; WWI: Enl.08Sep1915 and served as 6/3851 Sergeant with C Coy Canterbury Infy Bn in NZEF; RTNZ 30Apr1917; Disch.29May1917 as Medically Unfit due to illness contracted on active service; Died 02Sep1931 of Acute Alcoholism at Christchurch, Canterbury, NZ; Buried at Sydenham Cemetery, Christchurch.

The son of Charles and Alice Rochester, 10716 Pte Charles Kenneth Windsor Rochester, 23Bn NZ Infy was killed accidentally on 14Nov1942 in the Western Desert, North Africa. They had another son, Eric William Rochester but he died 09Jan1906 at age 5
