GROUP OF FIVE: 1914-15 Star; British War Medal 1914-18; Victory Medal 1914-19; War Medal 1939-45; Australia Service Medal 1939-45. 72 Pte S.Ellmer. 10 Bn. A.I.F. on first three medals with a weak 1 in 10 on first medal, S955 S.Ellmer on last two medals. All medals impressed. Swing mounted, cleaned and some contact marks on second medal, otherwise very fine.

Together with a pair of oxidised bronze Australia shoulder titles; a photo of uniformed Sam Ellmer on a post card with short note from him pencilled on reverse in 1917; Entitlement to War Gratuity memorandum dated Sep 9 1946.

The above trio appear to be official replacements. On 29 May 1941 Sam Ellmer applied for a replacement WWI Trio as he had lost the original medals when moving house on 25 July 1940 and he completed a Statutory Declaration to attest to his claim.

The 10th Battalion was one of the first units raised in Australia during WWI with recruits from South Australia. It took part in the Gallipoli Landing on 25 April 1915 and its members penetrated the furthest inland of any Australian troops during the initial fighting.
