TRIO: 1914-15 Star; British War Medal 1914-18; Victory Medal 1914-19. 1060 Pte E.H.Vere, 1/A.N.&M.E.F. All medals impressed. Display mounted, a few contact marks, ribbons dirty, otherwise very fine.

Ernest Henry Vere, labourer, age 35, born at Leeds, Yorkshire, England; Enl.18Aug1914 at Sydney, NSW, in AN&MEF with 4 years prior service in Royal Marines; Emb.19Aug1914; Disch.28Jan1915 at termination of period of engagement; Enl.01Mar1915 at Liverpool, NSW in AIF while working as a valet; Emb. 25Jun1915 with 19Bn and to Gallipoli 16Aug1915; to hospital ship 30Sep1915 and then to No.1 Aux Hosp with malaria; trf from 19Bn to Heavy Trench Mortar Battery as Gunner; AWL 27Sep1917 and remained so until arrested on 30Dec1917; remanded 03Jan1918 and to District Court Martial for being AWL and failing to report until apprehended in London, found guilty and awarded 4 months detention and admitted to AIF Det Barrack at Lewes, and also forfeiture of 219 days pay; on release trf to 2 Aust MTMB; RTA 02Jan1919; Disch.14May1919; Died in Sydney 14Mar1952.
