TRIO WITH SCARCE GSM TO 1 AUSTRALIAN WIRELESS SQUADRON: British War Medal 1914-18; Victory Medal 1914-19; General Service Medal 1918-62 (GVR coinage profile), - clasp - Kurdistan. First two medals with naming erased, 20548 T.S.Sjt. J.E.Blakey. 1-A.W.S.S. on last medal. The named medal impressed. Court mounted, the first medal with contact marks, fine - very fine.

Together with Australian Wireless Corps A.I.F. hat badge in oxidised bronze; b&w photo of 1st Wireless Squadron mat framed with drawn Wireless Corps badge above and under perspex in a timber frame (26x21.5cm).

John Edward Blakey, electrician, age 23, born at Robertson, near Cobar, NSW; Enl.17Sep1915 at Inverell, NSW with 12 months prior service in Australian Navy at Garden Island, Sydney, NSW; Emb.19Dec1917 with Light Motor Set Wireless Troop as 2nd Corporal; to Basra 08Mar1918 and Ops in Kurdistan as Staff Sgt; departed Basra 01Oct1919 and was demobilized in Mesopotamia to take up Civil employment with Works Directorate effective from that date; in 1921 Blakey was working at Departmental Officers' Stores, Electrical and Mechanical, Baghdad, Mesopotamia.

Only 55 GSM clasp Kurdistan medals issued to Australians.
