GROUP OF SEVEN: 1939-45 Star; Pacific Star; Defence Medal 1939-45; War Medal 1939-45; Australia Service Medal 1939-45; United Nations Korea Medal 1950-53; Army Long Service and Good Conduct Medal (EIIR Tudor crown and Dei Gratia), with Australia suspender. 428465 W J Bartlett on first five medals, 2/3389 W.J.Bartlett. on sixth medal and 23389 WO1 W J Bartlett ARA on last medal. The first six medals impressed, the last medal engraved. The first six medals swing mounted very fine, the last medal good very fine.

Together with Certificate of Discharge for VX63506 from 2nd Australian Imperial Force dated 24.6.42 reason for discharge stated to be, 'having made a false answer on attestation'; Extract of Entry of birth certificate dated 11th June 1948; RAAF Certificate of Service and Discharge as at 1/2/1946 (confirms award of above WWII service medals); Certificate of Service from Department of Aircraft Production Beaufort Division 28.10.46 to 10.4.47; RAAF Certificate of Service and Discharge as at 27/2/1948; certificate of employment from The British Phosphate Commissioners Nauru for period 14/7/1948 to 10/1/1949 and also an Agreement for employment from same group; four different Dog Tags for 2/3389 Bartlett W.J., two of these engraved and two impressed; Trade Proficiency Record Book for 2/3389 Bartlett W.J.; Soldier's Pay Books (7) from 1949 to 1968, the last with photo of soldier and marked Discharged; Warrant for appointment as Warrant Officer (Class 1) from 1st April 1963; Certificate of Discharge folder with discharge dated 11/7/70 and shows entitlement to United Nations Service Medal (Korea) and Long Service and Good Conduct Medal; official letters of congratulations on award of LS&GC Medal and also on retirement; Army ID Card valid to 2 Feb 75; British Passport (Commonwealth of Australia) issued 22 Jun 1948 valid for all countries except Palestine and with rubber stamping of Nauru inside; various other documents and photos. (The most comprehensive records of service that we have seen).

William Joseph Bartlett, born 04Aug1924 at Mooroopna, Vic; Enl.15Sep1941 at Royal Park, Vic in 2nd AIF (VX63506) at age 17 but falsely stated that he was older; Disch.26Jun1942 as Private ex 54 Fd Park Coy once his true age became known; Enl.05Nov1942 at Melbourne, Vic in RAAF; Disch.01Feb1946 as LAC ex 1 Aircraft Depot; Post WWII: RAAF - Enl.14Apr1947 and Disch.27Feb1948; Army - Enl.12Jul1949 in 2 Military District; Appt WO1 01Apr1963; Disch.11Jul1970; his Trade Proficiency Record Book shows the units that he served in and include BCOF Sig Regt and BRITCOM Base Sig Regt 1952-53, BRITCOM Base Sig Regt and CCK Sig Sqn 1956-57, AHQ Sig Regt 1957-58, NT Comd Intercomm. Tp 1959, 407 Sig Sqn 1960, 1 Radio Instl Tp 1961-63, 1 Signal Project Sqn 1964 (WO1 Foreman of Signals for planning of major Signal Centre installation of the Joint Communications Centre at Canberra), 127 Sig Sqn 1965-70.
