FAMILY GROUP: (Father) Group of Five: 1939-45 Star; Italy Star; France and Germany Star; Defence Medal 1939-45; War Medal 1939-45. All medals unnamed as issued. (Son) Group of Five: Korea Medal 1950-53 with MID; United Nations Korea Medal 1950-53; General Service Medal 1915-62, - clasp - Malaya; General Service Medal 1962-2007, - two clasps - Borneo, Malay Peninsula; also unofficial medal, Infantry Front Line Service Medal. 3/10530 E.Wright on first to fourth medals, the last unofficial medal unnamed. All named medals impressed. The first five medals loose, the last five court mounted, fine - extremely fine.
Together with (for Father) photo of a British WWII Memorial Scroll named in memory of 14276847 Private E Wright British Army; K.O.Y.L.I embroidered shoulder title; (for Son) Parachute Regiment embroidered shoulder title; Army Parachute wings embroidered badge; a book titled 'Keep Off The Skyline, The Story of Ron Cashman and the Diggers in Korea' by Peter Thompson and Robert Macklin, published 2004, with references to Eddie Wright on pp112, 128, 131, 168 and 174, and his photo in the photo plates between pp112 and 113.; several b&w photos of soldiers on service in Korea and Borneo; colour photcopy of telegram to Mrs F. Wright advising that her son, Edgar, had been wounded in action in Korea.
MID: LG 19/6/1953; CAG 2/7/1953, to Pte Edgar Wright, for courage and marked ability to maintain efficient communication when under fire at close quarters.
(Father) Pte E.Wright, King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry was reportedly wounded in Italy on 10Mar1944. Details of his death are unknown other than the issue of a Memorial Scroll.
(Son) Pte Edgar 'Eddie' Wright, RAInfy, born 30Oct1930 at Wellington, Somerset, England; joined the Parachute Regiment and then transferred in England to K Force (the Australian force raised for the Korean War); served with 3RAR in Korea 25Oct1951 to 09Nov1954.
Pte Wright took part in Operation Buffalo which was mounted in mid-August 1952 against the Chinese forces at Hill 75 to try and capture a prisoner. The operation resulted in no Chinese prisoners taken but at least 12 killed, and 3RAR lost 1 killed, 2 DOW, 22 WIA, and 1 taken prisoner, this virtually wiping out 6 Platoon.
Pte Wright was later WIA with shrapnel wound to his left thigh and a grazed right arm as advised to his mother by a telegram postmarked 26June 1953.
