Charles II (1660-85), Sixpence, first hammered issue, 2.96g, m.m. crown (on obverse only), 'Coronation' bust left, rev. square-topped shield over cross moline, no inner ring or mark of value (ESC 274 {1507}; N.2765; S.3309), a truly exceptional coin, save only for striking weakness above portrait and in corresponding area of reverse, and two small digs before nose, practically as struck with sumptuous cabinet tone overlying brilliant surfaces, one of the finest known of this elusive series, very rare thus.
