Edward the Confessor (1042-66), Penny, Winchester, Brand, 1.69g, + edþer: d reex, diademed and draped bust left, rev. + brand on þincestr, expanding cross (SCBI II {Glasgow}, 1059, same obverse die; cf. L A Lawrence {1950}, lot 276; N.823; BMC V; S.1177), beautifully toned, extremely fine, a rare moneyer only known for Winchester from this class.
