THRACE. Maroneia. Circa 168/167-48/45 B.C. AR tetradrachm. 14.66 gm. 34 mm. Head of Dionysos right, wearing wreath of ivy and berries / Dionysos standing left, nude, holding grapes and cradling narthex stalks; monograms flanking; ΔIONYΣOY ΣΩTHPOΣ MAPΩNITΩN. Schönert-Geiss 1235 (V70/unlisted reverse die, but monograms matching R224-R232). HGC 3, 1556. Good Very Fine; toned; old scratches beneath tone; damaged flan (broken at 7' but repaired and firmly in place). Particularly fine style on a very broad flan.
