Valentinian III (425-455). AE Nummus, Rome (?) mint. D/ [DN VALENTINIANVS PF AVG]. Pearl-diademed and draped bust right. R/ [VICTORIA AVGG] Victory standing facing, head left, holding wreath in each hand. Cf. RIC X, 2134 (R5) and note. AE. g. 0.95 mm. 9.50 RRRRR. Extremely rare, apparently the third specimen known. An outstanding example, from fresh and unusually well engraved dies. Lovely chocolate-brown patina. Good VF.

The type may relate to the victory of Theodosius II over Johannes. After the usurper had been defeated by the army of the Eastern Empire in a combined naval and land campaign, Valentinian was installed as Western Emperor in Rome on October 23, 425 AD, at the age of six.
