Louis Philippe I silver Cancelled Essai 5 Francs 1831 AU, Maz-962 var. A very rare pattern for Louis Philippe's 5 Francs, punched 24 times to enforce its cancellation. Only one other example from these dies has appeared at auction in the last 20 years (a white-metal example of this design without punch marks we previously handled in 2014), rendering this silver specimen a significant rarity and worthy of particular collector attention. Well-struck with its fields exhibiting considerable gloss, maintaining strong eye appeal despite the cancellation.
