George III copper Proof Pattern Bank of England Dollar of 5 Shillings 1804 PR62 Brown NGC, ESC-146 var (Thick Planchet/Piefort). Coin die axis. An extremely rare piefort variety of this already scarce copper pattern; unfortunately the holder prevents an accurate weight or measurement, but its increased heft is obvious in hand. Lightly marked on the obverse in line with the grade, otherwise near choice with delicately reflective milk-chocolate surfaces, an immensely bold strike, and altogether charming visual effect.
