A fine Nari?o pedestal bowl from Colombia, ca. 1250 - 1500 A.D. This well-used example from the Tuza cultural complex is 5-3/4? in diameter and features the eight-pronged star design representing Venus, an important clan and fertility symbol. It is set off with concentric circles descending from the rim, all painted in dark brown over cream slip. Strong mineral deposits, minor repair. From a Kansas City, MO estate. Cf.
