Bust, left wearing Order medals on necklace and lapel, signed below truncation / City arms between lion and griffin supporters to either side standing on an ornate plinth. Housed in an oversized holder.
Dr. Carl Georg Schwing (1778-1858) was a German lawyer and mayor of Stralsund, a Hanseatic town in the Pomeranian part of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. He entered the courts in 1805, and to the city council in 1805. In 1840 he was awarded the Red Eagle Order with a bow, which was increased in 1855 with oak leaves. Then in 1843 he became City Council Secretary. The Swedish King Oskar I awarded him the title of "Hofrat" in 1853 and the Commander's Cross of the Wasaords in 1855. In the same year the "Bürgermeister Schwing" was christened in in his honor.
