"Satirical" silver Specimen Medal (c.1900) SP63 PCGS, Hern-202, Laidlaw-212. 33mm. 14.72gm. By Nolte & Co., Berlin. EINMAL SELBER KASTANIEN GEHOLT? UND SO DIR GLEICH DIE PFOTEN VERKOHLT ("For once pulled your own chestnuts from the fire? And in so doing have burnt paws"). Crowned British lion standing on a rocky slope, body left, head front, holding up burnt paw with face expressing pain. At the top of the slope on left, fire billowing smoke over the lion's head. On rocks beneath the fire: "TRANSVAAL" in an arc / DEN KLEINEN BUR MIT GEWALTIGEN STREICHEN GROSSENGLAND ("Great Britain wanted to strike down the little Boer with vicious blows, but this brought her empty victories, and instantly her big guns were silenced"). Shield bordered by a wreath behind of rose leaves, oak leaves and thistles.
