Struck by Swiss families in gratitude to the President and the People of the United States. During World War II the US government sent huge amounts of food to Europe and especially to Switzerland. After the war, a committee led by the President of the Confederation, Gustave Ador, was established in Geneva in order to create a medal commemorating US aid. A large 118 mm single medal was engraved by Hans Frei and given to the President of the United States, Woodrow Wilson. Smaller 40mm medals were struck in bronze, silver and gold, to be sold to the Swiss population.
