CALABRIA. Tarentum. Circa 344-340 BC. Nomos (Silver, 20 mm, 7.66 g, 3 h). Ephebe, nude, holding a small round shield and a lance with his left hand and the reins with his right, preparing to vault from a horse cantering to left, his left leg hanging down and his right knee on the horse's back; below horse, ⊣. Rev. ΤΑΡΑ-Σ Phalanthos, nude, riding dolphin to left, holding crested Corinthian helmet in his outstretched right hand and resting his left hand on the dolphin's back; below, waves. Fischer-Bossert 653 k (this coin). HN III 876. SNG Lockett 165 (same dies). Vlasto 437 ff. An attractively toned and well-centered example. About extremely fine.
