The Byzantine Empire

Alexius I Comnenus, April 1081 – August 1118, with colleagues from 1088. Pre-reform coinage, 1081-1092. Debased trachy 1082-1087, EL 4.33 g. Christ seated facing on throne, nimbate, wearing tunic and colobium, raising r. hand in benediction and holding Book of Gospels in l. Rev. Facing bust of Alexius, wearing crown, divitision and chlamys, holding sceptre surmounted by pelleted star and globus cruciger. DO2. Sear 1893.
