India Government of India, Calcutta 50 Rupees ND (1930) Pick 9d Jhunjhunwalla-Razack 3.9 PCGS Extremely Fine 45. As beautiful as it is rare, this outstanding issue represents one of the finest known examples of this very scarce denomination. Seldom encountered in any grade, this type is available with two signature varieties and seven city codes. Featuring the JB Taylor signature variety and the Calcutta city stamp, this note also has the benefit of completely original paper and only light circulation. V/4 is the first known prefix for this variety, with only two confirmed prefixes known to date. Mild toning and a light pencil notation on the reverse do not detract from the overall appearance, but rather confirm the originality of the paper of this high grade example. This type is offered only once every few years or so, and in this grade, the catalogers believe an opportunity such as this will not repeat itself in the near future. A key note in the British India series, as well as in both the King George V realm and the British Commonwealth series as a whole.
