World Currency
Bahamas Bahamas Government 1 Pound 1.2.1869 Pick A10 Cancelled PMG Very Fine 20 Net. Possibly unique or very close to it, this incredibly rare surviving example is the Plate Note example in the Standard Catalog. Issued during a time when paper currency was secondary to gold and silver coinage, it is a miracle that this example was saved, despite the fact that is is hand cancelled. Historical date indicates that the population of the Bahamas around 1869-1870 was approximately 53,000 people, which suggests that very few paper notes would have been issued compared to today's standards. This Victorian-era British Empire currency note is sure to entice collectors in a variety of fields and specialties. The net grade designation is rather unnecessary, as "ink burns" is a cruel way of stating that the high quality fountain pen ink has slightly bled through the paper over the centuries, which is not unusual for any sort of document from the 19th century.
