Potosi, Bolivia, uniface silver medal, (1835), Battle of Yanacocha, PCGS MS 62. Fonrobert-unl. 30mm, 12.0 grams. Argentine arms inside seven-point sun-shape within plain circle inside seven-point star with ball-tip ends. As described by Harrold E. Gillingham in his 1932 work South American Decorations and War Medals, this design matches another piece in Salbach (Schulman, 1911, lot 2372) with reverse showing VENCI EN YANACOCHA, said to have been awarded to Argentine troops after the Battle of Yanacocha in which two political factions were struggling for control of Peru, resulting in the defeat of Gamarra by Santa Cruz on August 13, 1835. Nice luster, minimal marks and trace of wear or flattening on highest points only, probably a rare variant. PCGS #37706682.
($350-500)
