Cuba, octagonal gold medal, 1928, VI Pan-American Conference, with loop at top. 28mm, 17.75 grams. Map of the Americas with cartouche that reads HABANA / 2.24.1928 / SIENDO . PRESIDENTE / D . LA . REPUBLICA / EL . GRAL . / GERARDO . MACHADO within legend VI . CONFERENCIA . INTERNACIONAL . AMERICANA on obverse, reverse with tree and roots inside legend UNO . PARA . TODOS . TODOS . PARA . UNO, marked on edge with "P. & R. 14K". XF+ with light toning around details, hairlines in fields. The Sixth Pan American Conference, which included most of the Caribbean and Latin American countries, was held in Havana from January 16 to February 28, 1928, at a time when Cuba was under US influence. Notably absent were Mexico (which was still reorganizing after revolution), Bolivia and Peru (which both boycotted after Chile refused to renegotiate its position after the War of the Pacific). The establishment of Private International Law was one of the highlights of the Sixth Conference of 1928.
