Hand painted cartouche on sheepskin with helmet at top showing a sailing ship with goat in foreground, titled at bottom DE PETRICHE / Y~E CASTELLANO PHELIPE, probably 1400s (European), most likely the back cover of a book. 12-1/4" x 8-1/4". Rather simple rendering of a sailing ship under oars, blue water, and goat on the shore looking on with holes and threads on the right side, as from being bound as the back cover of a book, and small sewn repair at the bottom right. Overall good condition, painted colors still vivid, some foxing at the edges.
